The main objective of International Tamil Academy (ITA) is to teach the Tamil language to the Diaspora Children and Youth. In addition to teaching Tamil, ITA encourages Cultural activities such as music, dance, drama and any art form based on Tamil language and Tamil culture to promote Tamil and Tamil culture. ITA has a rich language program and its students not only study the language, they also learn about its history and culture. Public speaking is a highly sought after soft skill. Public speaking skill helps in building confidence and Leadership qualities in students. We are going to start the "English Public Speaking Course" at our Tamil School for students studying in Elementary grades (Ages 7 to 12) to enable them become confident in English Language and Public Speaking. This will be a free course for Vallalar Tamil School Students. The classes will be after the Tamil Classes, between 12:30 to 1:30PM. There will be 10-12 classes between March and June 2020. At the end of the course, students will participate in an "English Public Speaking competition" to showcase their skills. This course will be handled by our Tamil School Students as part of their "Girls Scouts Silver Awards Project". Our Tamil Students have to gain the necessary skills not only in our Tamil language but also in the leadership and policy-making areas as well. Valar Tamil Iyakkam, North America Center provided an opportunity for Vallalar Tamil School students to attend and participate in the UN's International Day of Peace event, on Sep 15th (Friday) at the United Nations HQ during the 72nd session of General Assembly. The General Assembly (GA) is the main deliberative, policymaking and representative organ of the UN. Our Tamil school students Dharsan Selvakumar and Meera Raju got an opportunity to attend the United Nations "International Day of Peace" event during their 72nd Assembly session held in New York on Friday, September 15, 2017. This event was a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn and reflect the importance of the global leadership, listen to the leaders of various countries, setting their own Sustainable Development goals for the Global Peace.
